LASHKARGAH (SW) – A dedicated market place established in Helmand’s capital city, Lashkargah, for women entrepreneurs three years ago remains out of actions since.
In conversation with Salam Watandar, a number of Helmandi women entrepreneurs said security concerns and cultural impediments are not allowing them dare to start businesses at this market. Two such businesswomen, Amina and Aadila, said they await more progressive and encouraging moves from the government to pave way for them here in this regard.
They said moves to make this market functional would prove helpful.
Wajeha Rasuli, head of the Directorate of Women Affairs, said that free of cost shops and workshops have been provided to women entrepreneurs in this market, but multiple issues such as security and cultural constraints, remain serious obstacles.
When contacted, Umer Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor, said no investment has been made in this market dedicated for women entrepreneurs. He said the provincial administration would render all of its support to the women traders if they invest in this market.
