KABUL (SW): The shockwaves from Sunday’s brazen suicide attack in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood compelled many children to avoid schools on Monday.
Kabir Haqmal, director communications at the Ministry of Education, has acknowledged that many children and parents are frightened due to the voters’ registration centers established in different schools. He went on to say the electoral laws demand the MoE to provide support to this process, which is ongoing. Haqmal said there is no plan in sight to declare holidays in schools during the registration process.
About the closure of registration centers, Rubina Shahabi, director communications at the Directorate of Population Census, informed six additional centers would soon be set-up. She acknowledged such centers are under immense threat of terrorist attacks, and such concerns have been shared with the officials.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has vowed strict security measures are in place to ensure safety of the people and registration centers. Najib Danish, spokesman for the MoI, informed Salam Watandar such measures are in place across the country.
Meanwhile, many parents of the children studying in public schools have vowed not to send their loved ones to schools unless their security is not fully ensured.
