MAZAR-I-SHARIF (SW): Unknown gunmen attacked two vehicles and killed 13 passengers onboard in the northern Balkh province Saturday afternoon.
Gen. Abdul Raziq Qaderi, Police Chief in Balkh said that the passengers were on their way to Zarih district before they were ambushed by the gunmen. He added that police have started an investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, Afghan National Security Forces have launched mop-up operations in Kunar, Ghazni, Logar, Khost, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Faryab, Kunduz and Takhar provinces to suppress and dismantle insurgents in the restive districts of the said provinces.
Following the operations, 77 insurgents have been killed, 71 more have been injured and 8 were arrested along with their ammunitions and weapons in the past 48 hours.
