MAIMANA (SW): A newly-wed woman has been shot dead allegedly by her husband in Faryab’s provincial capital Maimana city, officials have confirmed.
A well-placed source told Salam Watandar the young bride named Nasima was shot by her husband in the head last night. The motive behind the cold-hearted murder is not known yet. The mother and father of the suspect have been taken into custody by police.
Sameer Inayat, director at the public hospital in Maimana, said in this regard that the bullet has been fired from close range. Hafeez Fitrat, head of the provincial chapter of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), informed that this is the 14th incident of the sort this year so far.
Nine such cases have been marked as so-called ‘honor killings’ while the rest of five are categorized as criminal offensives.
