PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW): In a bid to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the capital Kabul, a 500 kilowatts sub-station would be built in Baghlan province.
Officials at the Ministry of Water and Power (MoWP) have told Salam Watandar the project is supported by the Asian Development Bank. It would help streamline supply of the imported electricity from Turkmenistan. The project is likely to cost $ 42 million.
Abdul Bashir, an official at the MoWP, has said the sub-station would come handy if electricity supply to Kabul from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan faced any issues. He said the project would make sure Kabul residents do not remain out of power for long hours.
Abdul Sattar Bariz, governor of Baghlan, has pronounced the project crucial for a number of neighboring provinces. Local officials in Baghlan are optimistic for another sub-station to be operational in 15 days. Work on this sub-station started three years ago, and it has cost some $ 18 million.
