KABUL (SW): A private Afghan firm on Tuesday inked deal with the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) to establish a scholarship fund for students.
The Qasemi Group has pledged to establish the scholarship fund worth $ 140,000 at the AUAF.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kenneth M. Holland, president of the AUAF, pronounced the development as an important step forward towards partnership with the private sector in the country. He said the AUAF is striving to strengthen democracy in Afghanistan, and lift the skills and capacity of the public sector employees as well.
Fareed Ahmad Noori, deputy president of the Qasemi Group, said in his remarks that plans are in sight to promote long-term ties with the AUAF.
Established in the year 2006 with an initial enrollment of 50 students, AUAF has more than 1,700 full and part-time students. It has produced 29 Fulbright Scholars and maintains partnerships with the world’s most prestigious universities, including Stanford University, Georgetown University, and the University of California.
