New Chairman for the HPC on the cards

KABUL (SW): The Arg (Presidential Palace) has vowed new chairman for the High Peace Council (HPC) would be introduced in the near future.

It has been four months following the death of Pir Syed Ahmad Gillani, the former Chief of the HPC, and since then no new head has been named to spearhead this body meant for peaceful settlement of the conflict in the country.

Dawa Khan Menapal, deputy spokesman for President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, told Salam Watandar consultation with the political leadership and the civil society is underway to name new head for the HPC. “Soon, an honest person would be introduced [as the head of HPC] who can successfully conclude peace talks with the rebels”, he said.

Mohammad Ismail Qasimyar, adviser at the HPC for international affairs, also underlined the need for new and active leadership at the HPC. He urged the new leader for the HPC should be a trusted and respected individual among the masses.
