NDS nabs Haqani network’s Kabul chief

KABUL (SW): The National Directorate of Security (NDS) claimed to have nabbed a high-ranking Haqani Network rebel with his 6 companions in Kabul on Tuesday.

A statement released by the NDS said that the arrested men were involved in organizing suicide attacks at the Hamid Karzai International Airport among other attacks in the capital. It added that these seven culprits are members of the notorious Haqani Network and were planning to carry out more attacks in Kabul.

According to the statement, in addition to the man who is dubbed as the ring leader Khalid, other included as his brother Esmatullah who are pronounced as responsible for Haqani network’s propaganda team, Noorullah as in-charge of explosive-laden vehicles and Farhad responsible for keeping suicide bombers in Kabul.

NDS has also released a video where Khalid confesses to several suicide attacks in Kabul dating back to 2010. He can be seen saying he was arrested in 2010 by the security forces but was later set free for unknown reasons.

Security forces have also seized explosives and other tools, which were to be used for a suicide attack.

The Haqani Network is accused of deadly attacks in Kabul and other cities in the country. This network is on the black list of the U.S who has on several occasions urged upon Pakistan to take serious measures against this group believed to be based in Pakistan.

The deadly incident at the Shah Shaheed in Kabul, which resulted in soaring ties between Afghanistan and Pakistan, was also carried out by this group.
