NDS claims to eliminate notorious Daesh leader

08/07/2015

KABUL (SW): Spy agency National Directorate for Security (NDS) announced the death Shahidullah Shahid, a notorious militant who was among the first to announce his allegiance with the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (Daesh).

NDS issues a statement on Thursday afternoon that stated Shahid was killed in an allied forces’ air raid in the eastern Nangarhar province. Earlier, it was stated that Gul Zaman, a Daesh commander for “Khorasan region” (Pak-Afghan border region) and his two deputies were eliminated in the attack.

Shahid had also served as spokesman for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Daesh leaders in Afghanistan have not commented on his death so far. Following the assassination of Mulla Abdul Rauf Khadim in Helmand, Shahid is the second leading Daesh rebel to fall.

Two days ago, more than 50 pro-Daesh fighters were believed to be killed during a drone strike in Nangarhar’s Dacheen district. In clear contrast to the Taliban dominated south, Afghanistan’s eastern and northern parts are witnessing growing surge of Daesh militants.

Last month, NDS formed a special unit to take on the emerging threat of Daesh in the region. In a latest promotional video-in which Daesh has been pronounced as a black spot on the image of Islam-NDS commandoes can be seen in action against the militant group.

“Afghanistan is not the place for Daesh”, the video says.
