MAIMANA (SW): Local officials in Faryab have informed soon a contingent of NATO forces would be deployed in the provincial capital Maiamana as part of the Resolute Support (RS) mission.
Gen. Janat Gul Karokhel, Brigade Commander of the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 209-Shaheen Corps, informed Salam Watandar that as many as 60 foreign troops would be stationed in Faryab. He pronounced this move significant in improve security situation in the province.
Meanwhile, the local population is skeptical about the performance and lack of coordination among the Afghan and NATO forces in curbing the terrorists. They said the deployment of foreign troops in Faryab would not prove fruitful. There are, however, some residents that are optimistic about it.
