MONITORING (SW) – The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, has condemned the Iranian missile attacks on the U.S. and Allies in Iraq.
Speaking after the meeting of NATO’s North Atlantic Council, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that the safety of NATO’s personnel in Iraq is paramount and that the Alliance had temporarily suspended training activities on the ground. He added that NATO was prepared to continue training and capacity-building when the situation permits, emphasizing that the Alliance remains strongly committed to the fight against international terrorism.
Meanwhile, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Idrees Zaman had a telephonic conversation with Lord Ahmad, UK Minister of State for Commonwealth, UN and South Asia, yesterday evening.
According to the foreign ministry, both sides raised their concerns over the recent escalations of tensions in the region. They further emphasized that since the situation in the region is in a critical verge, all efforts should be made not only to deescalate the situation, but also avoid its probable negative impact on Afghanistan.
