KABUL (SW): A national four-day cricket tournament kicked-off in Kabul and eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday that would see top six teams fight it out for the title.
According to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the teams represent five zones plus the capital Kabul. The relative long format of the game would test the skills and endurance of the emerging players. The tournament would conclude in two months’ time. The tournament has been named after the late Afghan emperor “Ahmad Shah Abdali.
Farid Hotak, spokesman for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said on the occasion that Kabul and Nangarhar would host the matches but if weather got cold in Kabul, some matches might be moved to Khost. Besides the young talent, the ACB also aims to engage national players in these matches to provide the younger lot an opportunity to learn from the seniors. The teams in this tournament include Spinghar, Band-E-Amir, Mis-E-Ainak, Amo, Bost and Kabul Green.
“We’re excited going into the fourth season of the regional -4-day, we want to see how much progress the teams have made having had an off-season with their squads to work on their preparation and fitness, as well as team and individual game plans”, the ACB has quoted Chairman Nasimullah Danish as saying.
