KABUL (SW): Nai – Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan organization announced on Monday that the dossiers of as many as 190 cases of violence against journalists are referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Abdul Mujeeb Khalvatgar, chief executive officer of Nai, told a press conference in this connection that these cases included incidents of killing, wounding, abduction and torture of journalists in Afghanistan. He added these incidents have been documented since 2004.
Among these cases, 48 are related to murder, 74 related to wounding journalists, 53 related to intimidations and 15 related to abduction of journalists.
According to Nai, the perpetrators behind these cases of violence against journalists are the Taliban, pro-Daesh militants and the Haqqani Netwrok. Khalwatgar urged upon the Afghan government and the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) to assist the ICC in probing these cases. He pronounced the killings and persecution of journalists in Afghanistan as ‘war crimes’.
