13/03/2016

BAMYAN CITY (SW): Officials at the Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Bamyan have noted that it has been 5 days since the two girls aged 8 and 14 were sold in the province but the police is yet to register the case.

These two girls were sold to two young men by their father and uncle in Dara-e-Foladi area for afn 325, 00000

Officials at provincial attorney’s office have said that based on the law, the police should register the case within 72 hours of the incident and then proceed with the initial investigation. The matter shall then be referred to the attorney’s office. It is not clear yet why the police in Bamyan has not referred the case to the attorney’s office so far.

The attorney office however, has said that it needed the case to be referred before it takes any action about it.

Rohullah Forogh, head of the IHRC in Bamyan, told Salam Watandar that this incident has shocked everyone as such incidents have always been a rarity in the province.

He added that the two girls were beaten before they were sold as bruises on their bodies spoke volumes of it.

Abdul Rahman Ahmadi, spokesman for the governor in Bamyan, said regarding the case that those who have had hands in selling and beating the girls would be punished and no one would enjoy any impunity.

Two young men who married the two girls are roaming around freely in the province.

Salam Watandar tried to reach the provincial police chief several times but to no avail.
