Mumbai hosts Passage to Prosperity for Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – The second annual four-day “Passage to Prosperity: India-Afghanistan International Trade and Investment Show” has opened in Mumbai, India.

Supported by USAID, the international forum is designed to showcase Afghan business and investment opportunities and bolster trade. This year there are more than 2,000 Afghan, Indian, U.S. and other international registered participants in the show, including more than 200 Afghan businesses, 1,200 Indian business leaders, and 100 international firms.

The event showcases the best of Afghan products, services, and business opportunities in luxury goods, agriculture, energy, health, education, mining and heavy industry, and more.

U.S. Ambassador John Bass, Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, other senior government officials from Afghanistan, India, and the U.S., and private sector executives from all over the world officially inaugurated the trade show that would continue till September 15.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah said the government has taken a number of steps to promote private sector in the country. He said trade deals worth $ 2 million were made in the first trade show of this series in New Delhi last year, and this year, this is likely to surge further.

The goal of this trade-show is to promote Afghan products and connect international buyers to Afghan sellers. The event will also help to drive exports and support the growth of Afghanistan's economy.
