KABUL (SW): Abdul Hakim Mujahid, Advisor to the High Peace Council (HPC) has been dismissed after he publicly called the Taliban as 'angels of peace'.
Mujahid caused uproar last week when he pronounced the Taliban as ‘angels of peace’ besides denouncing former president Najibullah, Burhanuddin Rabbani and Ahmad Shah Masoud.
Mujibur Rahman Rahimi, spokesman for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), told Salam Watandar Mujahid would no longer serve at the HPC. He confirmed that the former advisor of the HPC has been dismissed from this post.
A day earlier, the Presidential palace sternly rebuffed Abdul Hakeem Mujahid. “The government would not allow any one misuse the freedom of speech to name the murderers of children and women, those who damaged places of worship and public properties, as ‘angels of peace’”, a statement by the presidential palace said.
When contacted, Mujahid told Salam Watandar he just quoted Burhanuddin Rabbani who, according to him, had called the Taliban as 'angels of peace'.
