KABUL (SW) – A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Monday criticized the recent changes introduced in the structure of government by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.
In today’s session, the MPs said the President’s unilateral moves to merge a number of government entities as well as establishment of the State Ministry of Peace Affairs as well as the State Ministry of Human Rights and International Affairs actually falls within the jurisdiction of the parliament. Some members of the house dubbed it as violation of the Constitution.
The house urged the government to share with it the law on the fundamental structure of the government for legal deliberation on it.
However, Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Presidency, told Salam Watandar that the changes brought by the President are in line with the laws, and the formation of the State Ministry for Peace Affairs is based on the demands by the ‘Loya Jirga’, the grand consultative council of elders and public representatives.
Legal experts believe formation of these new establishments by the President causes delay in government operations.
