KABUL (SW): A number of parliamentarians said on Saturday that the United Nations should make efforts in ensuring peace in Afghanistan.

They pointed out to the increased Taliban’s activities and said the US intervention in bringing peace would only be a “political game”.

Nahid Farid, an MP, said that Afghanistan should complain to the United Nations about Pakistan because the deadly suicide attack which took place last week on Tuesday was carried out by Haqani Group which is based in Pakistan.

Mirbat Khan Mangal, another MP, said that the United Nations should do its part to ensure peace and stability in the country and should also exert pressure on the regional powers to eliminate terrorism.

The initial report of casualties due to the large suicide attack suggested 64 dead and 347 more injured but Almas Zahid, an MP, said that the exact number of those killed reach to 150 while 500 more were injured.

He said that to counter- terrorism and the countries which support them, there should be a specific strategy and plan.

The lawmakers said that the alternative for the current government would be Taliban and that if the government failed, Taliban would capitalize on the opportunity and would seize the power.

They added that the citizens should continue to support the security forces in order to defeat the enemy.

Abdul Rauf Ebrahimi, Wolesi Jirga (Upper House), asked the President to nominate his picks for Ministry of Defense and National Directorate of Security (NDS) since both organs are managed by acting heads.
