MoUDH holds “Urban Waste Disposal” conference

KABUL (SW): The Center for Research and Capacity Building at the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MoUDH) holds first ever 3 days conference on “Urban Waste Disposal” here in Kabul on Sunday.

The MoUDH authorities raising concerns over the environmental pollution in Kabul and other major cities said population explosion, unbalanced city developments, poverty and lack of waste disposal management and negligence of natural resources have damaged the environment for city dwellers in the country. The authorities also called the low quality of imports and improper use of the industrial materials as another reason for environmental pollution in the cities.

Sayed Mansoor Sadat, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, addressing a gathering called the aim of the conference to highlight the impact of waste on the environment, use of effective technologies for waste disposal and the importance and necessity of urban green spaces in the capital and other major cities of the country. The Minister expressed concerns over increasing domestic and industrial waste, said serious solutions and steps must be taken by the government.

Yousif Pashton, presidential advisor for housing, present at the gathering also called the lack of information and awareness on the environmental issues as the main problem of pollution in the country.

Officials of the National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA), also present at the conference warning against growing wastes, deforestation and danger against water resources of the country said lack of standard waste disposal system will increase problems in the capital. The NEPA authorities urged the government to take practical steps in solving the issues.
