MAZAR-I-SHARF (SW): Most of the rebels fighting the security forces in the north are foreign militants, Lieutenant General Murad Ali Murad(ANA-GFC), the Deputy Army Chief said as he introduced the new Corps Commander in the northern Balkh province on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering in the provincial capital Mazar-i-Sharif, Gen. Murad said the militants were flushed-out from rest of the country and were now waging war in the north.

“The enemy has been defeated in Kandahar and Kunar provinces, they want to create havoc in the north now, they never lose the opportunity to prove they are the enemies of Afghanistan.”

He added most of the militants in the north were sympathizer of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) that is commonly known as Daesh.

“We know about Daesh facilities, we have arrested and killed a number of their leaders”, he said

Referring to the ongoing military offensives in Kunduz, Badakhshan and other regions in the north, he vowed the operations would continue till the terrorists are completely dismantled.

“Our forces will fight them to the end”, he declared.

Major Gen. Abdul Hameed Hameed has been appointed as the newly 209-Shaheen Corps Commander in the north.

“We know our enemies very well, we are soldiers and we will defend our country against the enemy”, the newly appointed Corps Commander said.
