KABUL (SW) – Work has begun on a landmark mosque in the vicinity of Darul Aman in Kabul with clay and sand from all 34 provinces of the country.
On the directives of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani the clay and sand have started to arrive in Kabul, officials said on Monday. This move is in line with the 100th anniversary of the Independent Day celebrations.
Jawad Hijri, spokesman for the governor of Takhar, told Salam Watandar that clay and sand from 16 districts across the province have been gathered to be transported to Kabul. He said the consignment would be dispatched for Kabul in a ceremony.
In Nangarhar, spokesman for the governor Attaullah Khogyani said clay and sand from all districts of the province would be sent to Kabul for the construction of mosque.
In Bamyan, spokesman for the governor Abdul Rehman Ahmadi said up to 24 cubic meter of sand and clay have already been sent to Kabul for the construction of the mosque.
The construction of this mosque is supervised by the Administrative Office of the President.
