Moscow hosts peace conference on Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – The Moscow Peace Conference was held today with the representatives of the High Peace Council and the Taliban in the Russian capital.

The meeting began with a speech by Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov. The Russian Foreign Minister said in his speech that the world hopes that Afghanistan can successfully overcome the transition from terrorism. He said that the problem of Afghanistan can be solved by resorting to political methods and with the participation of all groups involved in the affairs of this country.

Referring to representatives of the High Peace Council and the Taliban group, he added that the Moscow conference will help to bring about peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan. "Moscow hopes to be a major organizer of the conference, with a view to launching internal talks in Afghanistan. Obviously, many obstacles have to be tackled to achieve this goal. We believe that all politicians need to set their personal agendas aside and will need to only follow the national interests of the Afghan people. "

Representatives from India, Pakistan, Iran, China, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and the US have been officially invited to the Moscow conference in addition to the Taliban and members of the High Peace Council.

On behalf of the High Peace Council, a delegation of four members has been headed by Haji Din Mohammad, deputy chairman of the council, to Moscow. Also on behalf of the Taliban, a delegation of five, including Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, Abdul Salam Hanafi, Shahabuddin Delaware, Zia Rahman Madani, and Mohammad Sail Shaheen participated in the meeting.
