KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) have claimed that the Ministry has saved 1.5 billion afghanis in procurement in the past year.

Nasir Ahmad Durrani, the Minister for the MoRRD, addressing a press conference here in Kabul on Wednesday said the sum is saved from 152 contracts for different departments. “We are trying to cut down expenses from different sections. The Ministry has saved 600 thousand afghanis from digital landline phone”, added Durrani.

The Minister further said since the inception of the National Unity Government (NUG), no developmental project contracts are amended to increase the Ministry’s budget, but two contracts were amended which has reimbursed 1 million dollars to the government from the contracting company. The MoRRD officials said several companies were fined for noncompliance which has generated 66 million afghanis.
