SHEBERGHAN (SW) Local officials in the northern province of Jawzjan announced that the government would distribute land to the internally-displaced families (IDPs) in Qush Tapa and Darzab districts.
Abdul Rahman Mahmudi, the deputy governor in the province, told Salam Watandar that so far the government has distributed lands for as many as 950 needy families, and some 2,500 residential plots would be distributed to the IDPs by the end the next week.
Speaking to Salam Watandar, Hafiz Nudrat, the member for Jawzjan Provincial Council, said that according to the survey conducted by the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR), some 2,500 internally displaced families would be granted with lands in Qush Tapa and Darzab districts. He noted that few years ago, the MoRR carried out distribution of some 2500 residential plots for internally displaced families.
In the meantime, having received the land, Abdul Hamid, an IDP, told Salam Watandar that war and insecurity have forced a large number of families to flee their homes and take refuge in Sheberghan city. Shahi Mardan, another IDP, said: "we are running out of drinking water in this area".
The deputy governor announced that the internally displaced families can now have their houses build on the land provided to them.
