More than 70 killed in this year Hajj

KABUL(SW): Officials at the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affair (MoHRA) has said that 34 Afghan citizen were killed and 37 more were injured in this year’s Hajj.

Dayee-ul-Haq Abed, Deputy Minister told journalists today (Thursday) that out of 34 dead, 10 lost their lives in the crane crash at Mecca. He said that 3 more Afghan citizens were killed due to the stampede at Mina at the Day of Arafat while 5 Afghan pilgrims have not been found yet.

He further said that a total of 24 thousand people from Afghanistan participated in the Hajj this year out of which 8000 have already returned after completing the journey. 

In this year’s Hajj, two different incidents that happened at the Grand Mosque and at Mina respectively killed around 876 people and left 1093 more injured.

The first incident happened due to a crane crash and the later was a horrific stampede.
