MoPH praises volunteers in the health sector

KABUL (SW): The cases of death during the childbirth have declined significantly thanks to the ever improving health services across the country, officials at the Ministry of Public Health said on Tuesday.

In line with the International Day of Volunteers, the MoPH organized a moot to commemorate the services of volunteers in the health sector. A number of volunteers from across the country participated in the conference.

Najia Tarique, director at the MoPH told the gathering that volunteers in the health sector have played remarkable role in providing health services to the masses across the country.

It was noted that some 30, 000 volunteers are working in the health sector, and up to 50 percent of them are female. The MoPH officials said that on average 1060 out of 100 thousand women lost their lives in childbirth in the year 2003. The figure has fallen to 327 out of 100 thousand women in the year 2010.

Najia Tarique told the moot that the volunteers play key role in raising awareness about health and hygiene.

Representing the volunteers, Mena; a female volunteer said that the people and government should pave ways for them to better serve the nation. She called for the need of security, job opportunities and training opportunities for the young volunteers.
