MoIA prevents 4.5 billion afghanis from misuse

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA) announced to have prevented misuse of 4.5 billion afghanis in the past Lunar year.

Authorities at the Inspector General’s Office (IGO) at the MoIA said the directorate has prevented this money from misuse at the Ministry while one million more afghanis are being collected.

Hamid Hamidi, head of anti-corruption directorate, said 890 corruption cases were registered in the year 1395. He further added 105 cases were about suspected corruption while 262 persons including 15 high-rank officials and 40 low-rank officers of the MoIA were introduced to the Attorney General’s Office. “The 262 persons were charged under administrative corruption, bribery, embezzlement, misuse of authority and damaging government property”, informed Hamidi.

The head of anti-corruption directorate said the cases are sent to Afghanistan’s Anti-Corruption Justice Center (ACJC). “30 million afghanis embezzled from police payroll by local police chiefs in Uruzgan, Helmand and Nangarhar provinces are taken back and re-distributed as salaries to the police”, informed Hamidi.

According the MoIA officials, there is a significant decrease in the number of corruption cases while an increase is seen in dispatched cases for prosecution.
