KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has launched campaign against sexual harassment in universities across the country.
Arifa Paikar, director gender affairs at the MoE, told Salam Watandar a comprehensive strategy in this regard was chalked-out last year, and its first phase has been implemented in universities. She added this campaign aims to create awareness about the issue, and to educate women and girls about measures to counter such harassment.
As part of the plan, graffiti and street art would be used to educate the masses against street harassment. She acknowledged that the universities’ staff is helping them with this.
The Burhanuddin Rabbani University in Kabul has been selected for the pilot project. And, if the results of the project were satisfactory it would be replicated across the country. Female students at the university in particular expressed profound gratitude over the launch of this unique project.
The Ministry of Higher Education has urged officials at the academic centers and members of the society in general to cooperate with this program in a bid to inform and educate masses about the problems associated with the sexual harassment.
