NEW DELHI (SW): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his message to President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani greeted the Afghan people on the occasion of ‪Afghanistan Independence Day on August 19.

Modi joined a number of world leaders who have facilitated the Afghan leadership on this important occasion.

“It gives me immense pleasure to extend warm greetings and felicitations on behalf of the Government and the people of India, to the Government and the people of Afghanistan on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan”, Modi said.

The relationship between India and Afghanistan is not just a relationship between two countries, but a relationship of hearts that has been nurtured through timeless interaction between our peoples. We deeply value the goodwill and affection of the great Afghan people, the Indian PM added.

As the Afghan people celebrate the National Day, we pause to mourn the loss of lives in senseless acts of violence and terrorism, and admire the velour and resolve of the Afghan people as they seek to build a peaceful, stable and prosperous future that they so richly deserve, a communiqué by the Indian Embassy in Kabul quoted Modi as saying.

Prime Minister Modi stressed India will always honor the commitment of our friendship and strategic partnership.

“I wish you and the people of Afghanistan all success in securing lasting peace and prosperity and assure you that we will be with you in your journey ahead”.
