28/05/2017

KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) have said the Ministry has not found any evidence of military helicopters landing in Taliban and Daesh controlled areas.

20 days ago, a number soldiers in Sar-e-Pul province claimed to have seen military helicopters landing in Taliban controlled area of the province while at least 4 days ago another military helicopter landed in Baghlan for 20 minutes in enemy controlled area. According to the local authorities in Baghlan the military helicopter unloaded equipment for the Taliban.

The local authorities had confirmed the incident in both provinces, but without any evidence which prompted the MoD to launch investigation into the matter.

Mohammad Radmanish, spokesman for the ministry of defense, told Salam Watandar that the military helicopters help soldiers in the frontline fighting the insurgents. The spokesman for the Ministry also said that the issue of military helicopter landings in insurgent controlled areas have been discussed with the Resolute Support Mission as well. “Our military helicopters land in enemy controlled areas only in cases of technical emergency, executing military operations and when the frontline falls to the government ousting the enemy”, RS had told Radmanish.

But, Atiqullah Amarkhil, a military expert, talking to Salam Watandar said the Afghanistan’s airspace is controlled by the U.S. and most of the military helicopters landing in the insurgent controlled is done by either the U.S. or RS with an aim to equip the enemy.
