KABUL (SW): The dropping of Mother of All Bombs (MOAB) by the U.S. in Achin caused concerns among a number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members on Saturday.
During the session, members expressed fears that such unprecedented display of force would further aggravate the law and order situation, and turn the country into battlefield for global powers. A number of parliamentarians, however, welcomed the attack believing it would eliminate the terrorists for good. Few others called for fact-finding missions to get a clear picture of the situation on the ground in Achin, Nangarhar.
Esmatullah Shinwari, member of the house, said no harm has been done to civilians, and only the Daesh militants have borne the brunt of this attack. Shinwari backed the calls for sending an inquiry commission to Achin to study the impacts of this attack.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, speaker of the house, ruled that a joint commission of the house should visit the site of the attack, and update the members about the ground realities.
The attack has stirred mix reaction across the country with some favoring the move while others denouncing it. Officially known as a GBU-43B, or massive ordnance air blast weapon, the MOAB unleashed some 11 tons of explosives when it was dropped in Achin, Nangarhar on Thursday.
