MAIMANA (SW): A minor girl has been raped and then killed by her neighbor in Faryab province.
The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Hafiza. Her mother found her teenaged daughter’s dead body. The devastated mother said it was an evening when her daughter went to the barn to feed the cattle, but did not return for a while. “When I went to check on her, I found her dead body”, she said.
She blamed two boys in her neighborhood namely Ali Mohammad and Ibrahim for it. The grieving mother has urged the government to arrest and punish the culprits.
Samir Enayat, chief coroner at the Faryab hospital, has confirmed the girl has been raped before murdered.
Said Hafiz Fitrat, provincial head of Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC), called the incident shocking. He urged law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits as soon as possible. According to Fitrat, the motive behind this gruesome incident can be sexual frustration, cultural and economic constraints, high financial cost of weddings, and lack of knowledge about Islamic laws.
At least 33 cases of murder are registered with the IHRC as cases of violence against women are surging.
