KABUL (SW): Officials at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has said that 84 corruption related cases have been investigated in the past 4 months.
The officials announced a new policy to combat corruption in cooperation with Independent Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (MEC) here in Kabul on Tuesday. MEC has identified 115 vulnerable areas in the Ministry based on which the new anti-corruption policy is designed for the MoPH.
Abdul Qadir Qadir, the head of policy and program directorate at the Ministry, said that based on the new policy if the issues of legitimacy, anti-corruption and public monitoring of the services in the public health institutions, are taken into consideration, corruption will be curbed.
A representative of European Union, on the occasion of announcing the new anti-corruption policy, welcoming the Ministry of Health's will to fight corruption, said since 2001, EU has been helping the Ministry and will continue to help till 2020.
Nurshah Kamawal, the director of the National Agency for Drug and Health Control, said the Agency has set up a new set of regulations to control pharmacies, according to which 80 per cent of pharmacies will be under the Agency’s supervision by the next 6 months. He added according to the new regulations, citizens will be given a code, and if the pharmacies sell the drugs at prices higher than the set price, the citizens can inform the authorities.
The Public Health Ministry officials at the gathering also rejecting the issue of receiving money from patients, justified that the patients only pay for planned and cosmetic surgeries.
