12/10/2015

KABUL(SW): Masoom Stanekzai, Acting Minister for Ministry of National Defense has said the government has come across evidences during a recent military operation in Shorabak district in Kandahar that proves different countries are involved in fueling insecurity in Afghanistan.

Without revealing the names of the countries, he further said that the evidences suggested that international terrorism is active in Afghanistan. Masoom Stanekzai, while speaking in a press conference on Monday said the special operation carried out in Shorabak district was unprecedented in the past 10 years. He added that the operation by security forces in cooperation with NATO was launched against a Taliban’s stronghold.

He added it was a conducive center for training and preaching for the Taliban located in an area bordering Pakistan. He further said that 233 militants were killed in the operation but said nothing on the possible casualties inflicted on the security forces.

“As a result of the operation against terrorists a while ago in Waziristan, the terrorists fled to Afghanistan and intensified their offensives on different areas in the country. The main reason for the growing insecurity in the country is the surge of foreign terrorists from Tajekistan, Uzbekistan and Chechnya. They intensified their offensives and put pressure on security forces but fortunately the security forces backed by local forces defeated them” He said.

He said foreign troops fought the militants with state of the art equipment in the past but Afghan security forces fight them without modern equipment but can still crush them.
