Minister of Refugees urges EU to accept Afghan immigrants

KABUL (SW): Authorities at the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations (MoRR) have requested the European Union (EU) to accept asylum cases of the Afghan refugees.

The Ministry commemorating the World Refugee Day with national and international entities on Tuesday here in Kabul urged the EU to accept the cases Afghan asylum seekers.

Said Hussein Alimi Balkhi, Minister of Refugees and Repatriations, addressing the predicaments of the event urged the EU countries to accept the asylum cases of Afghan refugees due to the surge of recent violence and instability in the country. “247 thousand cases of Afghan refugees have been accepted by the EU countries while more than 582 thousand of such cases have been rejected. Only 45 per cent of asylum applications of the Afghan refugees have been approved by EU member countries”, informed Balkhi.

Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the country, assured that the government is determined to solve the problems of the refugees.

EU representative promised to fund more than 100 million dollars for the Afghan refugees and Internally Displaced Persons.

Based on the information given by MoRR, more than 5.6 million Afghans are living as refugees.
