TARINKOT (SW): An Afghan National Army (ANA) base in Uruzgan province has been under the Taliban siege for the past eight months now, local officials have said.
Amir Mohammad Khan, head of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar there were up to 140 soldiers stationed here, and now the number has reduced to 100 either due to casualties or injuries. The base is said to be in the Meherdad area in the provincial capital Tarinkot.
Khan warned that the soldiers are faced with grim situation, and might witness bloodshed if not provided with much-needed support on time. He added that the Afghan National Police (ANP) men tasked to support the base have either left the area or joined the ranks of the Taliban.
The provincial council chief of Uruzgan blamed the Ministry of Interior (MoI) for deteriorating situation in the province.
Meanwhile, the provincial police chief Ghulam Farooq has claimed security situation is improving day by day. He discarded reports about the siege of this military bases, and vowed the militants have been pushed back.
The Taliban are yet to comment on it.
