Militants warn Kunar residents against serving the government

01/07/2017

ASADABAD (SW): Armed militants have warned residents in Kunar’s Wata Pur district to immediately quit government jobs and pay fine worth around $ 2000.

A number of Wata Pur residents told Salam Watandar that the Taliban and pro-Daesh militants are also demanding the locals to handover their guns. Elders of two such families who wished not to be named told Salam Watandar they had no other option but to flee their hometown. “The Taliban warned us to pay them 200, 000 Pakistani Rupees or quit the government jobs, we migrated” one of the elders said. “No one can stand against pro-Daesh rebels, they are demanding a gun and 200, 000 Pakistani Rupees from those serving the government”, another elder said.

A number of families from the district’s Katar village have moved to relatively safe places, but are in dire need of aid.

Provincial security officials admit situation is not very good in Wata Pur. Cap. Juma Gul, provincial police chief, told Salam Watandar a cleansing operation is in sight for this restive district. “We have a grand ground operation in sight, and God willing! All the areas would be cleared from the rebels”, he said.

Authorities believe the pro-Daesh rebels are penetrating into Wata Pur, Noor Gul, Naray, Chapa Dara, Manogay districts and some other areas. There are an estimated 2000 pro-Daesh militants here.
