Militants kill mother of a government employee in Helmand

LASHKARGAH(SW): Officials in southern Helmand province has said that an old woman was killed by Taliban last evening because her son was serving the government.

Omar Zawak, spokesman for the provincial governor said that the Taliban firstly abducted the women with her two-year old son and took them to one of their ‘court’. According to Zwak, the court ruled she should be killed and her son be spared.

Belal Sediqi, official at the Independent Human Rights Commission in Helmand has said that they were investigating this case.

Sediqi emphasized that the Constitution and Islamic laws do not permit any individual or groups to commit such acts. He also urged the authorities to take this matter seriously and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Mohammad Hamdard,  a local civil society activist too expressed concerns over this unprecedented incident.  The Taliban have not commented on it.

According to the Zawak, another woman also got killed as a result of roadside landmine explosion in the Panj Block area in Marja district on Tuesday.
