Militants kill ALP commander s wife in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW): Armed rebels in Jawzjan province have killed the wife of an Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander in the Darzab district.

The provincial council members have said wife of the slain ALP commander Shah Mohammad fought with the insurgents for hours before they shot her dead. Halima Sadaf Karimi, a member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar fighting has been going on in the district for the past two days. “The Taliban and pro-Daesh insurgents have torched 12 homes in the district too”, added Karimi.

Rahmatullah Turkistani, provincial police chief, has said wife of the ALP commander was killed in exchange of fire. Mother of the slain ALP commander is said to have sustained injuries. According the provincial police chief, the fight ensued yesterday afternoon between the ALP and the insurgents, when the militants killed commander Shah Mohammad in a planned attack while he was returning home with his guards.

The provincial security officials have said 5 militants are dead while 4 more are injured. No details have been revealed about the losses inflicted upon the security forces. The provincial council members have raised concerns over deteriorating security situation in the province.
