FARAH CITY (SW): Government forces on Sunday thwarted a full-blown militant attack in the south western Farah city.
Officials associated with the Afghan National Army’s (ANA) 207th Corpse said more than 700 armed militants attacked Pustht-e- Rood in Balabluk district last evening. Officials said the fighting continued till the middle of the night.
Gen.Taj Mohammad Jahed, Commander of 207th Corpse said that the fighting left 6 militants dead and 16 more injured. According to Jahed, 4 police officers got killed and a few more security forces were injured.
He said the Taliban wished to block the Farah highway and inflict heavier damage. Gen. Jahed said the militants had gathered from all districts to conduct a sudden attack but were given tough time by the vigilant armed forces.
Meanwhile, security officials in northern Badghis province have said since Vice President Gen. Abdul Rasheed Dostum has taken command of the clearance operation in Faryaab, many militants have fled to Badghis.
