JALALABAD (SW): Spate of militancy has compelled thousands of families to flee homes from Kunduz province while a number of schools have reportedly been torched by the militants in Nangarhar province on Monday.

Mohammad Asif Shinwari, an official at the Nangarhar Education Department told SW that due to infighting between the militants a number of schools have been forced to close. He said 7 schools have been forced to close in Haska Mina and Achin districts and 10 more were on the verge of being closed soon.

“In Haska Mina, the schools were closed as a result of threats by the militants while in Achin district the schools were closed following infight between groups of rebels.” He added that the provincial government has been informed about the matter.

It is worth mentioning that there have been persistent reports about fights between Daesh gunmen and the Taliban in this part of the country. Latest reports suggest the Daesh militants have gained upper hand over the Haska Mina district.

Meanwhile, officials in the northern Kunduz province have confirmed the displacement of at least two thousand families due to unrest. Mohammad Yousuf Ayubi, Head of the Provincial Council told journalist that the families have migrated from various parts of the province to the provincial capital Kunduz City and Khan Abad district.

Ayubi said these internally displaced families have so far gained no assistance from the government or aid agencies.
