GARDEZ (SW): The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has ‘cheated’ the locals by just replacing the signboard at the public hospital instead of uplifting the level of services, an official has charged.
Hafeezullah Mubarez, member of the provincial council, said the services and personnel at the public hospital in the provincial capital Gardez are still insufficient for the province while the MoPH vows to have uplifted it to Paktia Regional Hospital. He said it is literally impossible to find medicine at this facility.
He pointed the hospital lacks Intensive Care Unit, CT scan unit, eye and the ENT units.
Muska Mangal, a local civil society activist, mentioned the staff at this hospital has not changed, and is not sufficient to meet the growing demand. She added the gynecology ward is run by midwives in the absence of trained doctors.
Commenting on this, Wilayat Khan Ahmadzai, head of the directorate of public health acknowledged the hospital is yet to be practically lifted to the level of a regional hospital. He said work is underway on various parts of the hospital, and in three months it would be upgraded.
Some four months ago, Ferozuddin Feroz, Minister at the MoPH, visited Paktia and announced to upgrade t provincial hospital to the level of a regional one.
