Mawlawi murdered in Takhar over protesting

TALOQAN (SW): Mawlawi Nazirullah, is assassinated on charges of taking part in marches against a local commander in Takhar province on Wednesday night.

The cleric was assassinated at 8 p.m. after he was returning home from evening prayer in the village of Zargaran of Chah Aab district.

Afzal Shamil, a member of Mishrano Jirga (upper house), informed that Malawi Nazirullah participated in a protest on Tuesday against Bashir Qanit, a local warlord, affiliated with Hezb-e-Islami party. “Hussein Jandi, a loyalist to Bashir Qanit had warned Mawlawi Nazirullah in front of the locals that he will be killed for participating the protest”, added Shamil.

According to residents of Chah Aab district, Mawlawi Nazirullah in his recent speech had called for jihad (holy war) against Bashir Qanit and his gunmen.

Khalil Asir, the spokesman for the provincial police, confirmed that Mawlawi Nazirullah led the protesters in Chah Aab district on Wednesday.

Dozens of residents of Chah Aab district of Takhar came to the roads and chanted slogans against Bashir Qanit on Wednesday afternoon.

Salam Watandar wished to contact Bashir Qanit for the matter and the accusation of Afzal Shamil, but to no avail.
