LASHKARGAH (SW): Authorities in southern Helmand province have hinted soon a massive military operation against the militants would be launched across the province.
Omar Zawak, spokesman for the provincial governor, said that the operation would be joined by the special units of the Afghan Air Force (AAF).
It is said that nearly 3,000 security personnel that include ground units, commando force and artillery units have been prepared and are ready to launch the operation.
The time for the operation is not announced yet.
Taliban have had control over a number of spots in the province including Baba Jee area in the provincial capital Lasharkgah City. The government forces however, claim they have recaptured many areas back from Taliban’s control.
Zawak added the militants sustained heavy casualties during the fighting in Baba Jee.
He did not mention the number of the militants killed in the fighting but did mention that 15 security personnel were killed in the clashes. Earlier, Mirza Khan Rahimi, governor of Helmand, said that the security situation in Helmand was improving for the better.
The residents in the area however expressed their concerns regarding the fighting. Locals said their houses were affected as the result of the conflict and many of them had to flee to the neighboring areas.
