Masked men raid mosques in Takhar

TALUQAN (SW): As many as 15 masked men have raided two mosques in northern Takhar province, stealing all belongings of those busy in prayers.

The incident took place in Cha Ab district on Tuesday evening when the armed men hiding their faces entered the mosque, looted those praying and also kidnapped a villager named Haji Zaman.

Confirming the occurrence, Junaidullah Faiz, the district officer in Cha Ab told Salam Watandar that the masked men raided a mosque in the Dawran village of the district. After looting in one mosque, the raiders attacked another mosque in Pul-e-Sarkham area and injured a praying-man.

The district officer in Cha Ab stated that the raiders have not been identified so far, and measures are carried out to arrest them. He said the attack took place as the prayers ended and men were leaving the mosque.

Meanwhile, Saidullah, a resident in the area, has said that the raiders took 4 men with them but later released 2 of them.

Circled by mountains, Cha Ab is a district that borders Tajikistan.
