KABUL (SW) – Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday criticized the parade of armed men during death anniversary of Ahmad Shah Massoud, but also criticized the handling of it by the security forces.
Addressing a moot here in connection with the Ashura-e-Muharam, Adbullah said the handing of these parades by the security forces was ‘unprofessional and inhuman’. The CE said such attitude by the security forces harmed their image, and stressed the security forces should not be ‘used for political goals’.
Videos circulating on social media showed the security forces bundling the participants of the parades.
According to the Ministry of Defense, an army officer got killed in firing by the parade members on Tuesday. Around 150 people have been arrested on charges of carrying arms on this day.
Every year, loyalists of Massoud, National Hero of Afghanistan, take to the streets in Kabul to mark his death anniversary during the Martyrs Week.
