MAIMANA (SW): A woman has allegedly been beheaded by her husband and father-in-law in northern Faryab province, officials said on Thursday.
Abdullah Masoumi, the chief for Khwaja Sabz Posh district told Salam Watandar that the 25-year old woman Fauzia was also stabbed multiple times. He noted that the victim was resident of the Sabz village, and initial investigations suggest her husband and father-in-law are behind the murder. Masumi added that Fauzia was married-off five years ago but she had no child since.
Abdul Kareem Yourish, spokesman for the provincial police department said in this regard that Fauzia’s husband Mohammad Ishaq and father-in-law Abdul Qayum have been taken into custody on the complaint of the deceased’s family members.
The provincial chapter of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) has been concerned over mounting number of cases of violence against women in Faryab. According to the reports, some 24 women have lost their lives here due to domestic violence this year so far. Syed Hafeezullah Fitrat, head of the AIHRC in Faryab, said that the latest incident also seems like another case of domestic violence. He stressed upon the need for accountability, justice and safety for women.
