KABUL (SW): Veteran Afghan cricketer Nawroz Mangal on Tuesday announced retirement from international cricket, and assumed charge as Chief Selector for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
Atif Mashal, the newly appointed Chairman of the ACB, announced the name of new chief selector and two other members of the selection committee namely Wali Amin and Ahmad Shah. In other appointments, Hasti Gul Abid was named as head of the dicipline committee with Raees Ahmadzai, Sayed Anwar Shah Qureshi and Najibullah Hayatkhel as members.
In a career spanning over a decade, Mangal featured in 49 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and scored 1139 runs with an average of 27.11 with two centuries and 4 half-centuries.
Mashal praised Mangal as a seasoned cricketer, and thanked him for his services for cricket in the country. Assuming the new role, the former skipper said he would resist all sorts of pressures to ensure fair and merit-based selection.
