According to well-placed sources, Gen. Janan Barikzai, first deputy minister, Gen. Akhtar Ibrahimi, deputy minister and Gen. Najib Aman, head of counter-terrorism department, have been terminated by the President.
Nusrat Rahimi, deputy spokesman for the MoI, has stated in a social media post that the move is aimed at ensuring proper execution of duties, security and actions against crimes in the country. He added based on the recommendations of the MoI, the President has appointed Abdul Saboor Qane, as deputy minister, Khushal Saadat as first deputy minister and Mahir Yaqubi as head of the counter-terrorism department.
This comes weeks after President replaced Wais Ahmad Barmak with Amrullah Saleh as minister for the MoI. Currently, the National Security Adviser, Hamdullah Muhib, is heading the MoI as Saleh has filed nomination papers as proposed deputy to President Ghani in the forthcoming presidential elections.
