KABUL (SW): In a bid to boost the yield, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Saturday distributed tractors among farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Naseer Ahmad Durrani, minister for the MAIL, said these tractors would be provided on easy instalments to farmers by the capital Kabul, Balkh, Heart, Nangarhar and Baghlan regional directorates.
It is part of the ‘irrigating the fields’ project worth AFN 11.6 million.
The minister said each unit costs up to AFN 322,000. The MAIL would contribute 70 per cent of the cost while farmers would need to pay only 30 per cent. It was hoped these machines would boost the production and ensure irrigation of fields in a more sustainable way.
